Gijs Naber

Gijs Naber is one of Holland’s most sought-after actors. He played the lead role next to Léa Seydoux (Inglorious Bastards, Spectre) in The Story of my Wife (2021), by the Oscar nominated director Ildiko Enyedi (On Body and Soul). The film has been selected to screen in the Official Competition at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Naber was awarded a Dutch Academy Award (Golden Calf) for Best Actor twice: for the feature film Aanmodderfakker (2014), and TV crime drama Judas (2019), based on Astrid Holleeder’s bestselling autobiography where he portrays Dutch crime kingpin Willem Holleeder. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Dutch theatre award The Arlecchino (2012).

Most recently, Gijs starred in the Dutch-Swedish co-production I Am Zlatan (2021) in which he plays famous Dutch soccer coach Ronald Koeman, Faithfully Yours (2022) opposite Bracha van Doesburgh and Elise Schaap, youth series Lampje (2022) and De Droom van de Jeugd (2023) which screened at Canneseries 2023. Gijs has recently completed filming for the feature film and series Hagen von Tronje, a production by Constantin Film. In this project, he takes on the lead role of Hagen, portraying a character who is a native German.

Earlier in his career, Gijs took on the lead role in the action-packed historical spectacle film Redbad (2018) helmed by Roel Reiné and one of the most expensive Dutch films of all time, the arthouse film My Foolish Heart (2018) which tells the story of the last day in the life of Chet Baker, Tulipani: Liefde, Eer en een Fiets (2017) directed by two-time Oscar winner Mike van Diem, which premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) before being chosen as the opening film of the Netherlands Film Festival. Naber played the role of kidnapper Cor in De Heineken Ontvoering (2011) about the kidnapping of beer magnate Freddy Heineken. In 2008 he starred in a supporting role in Zwartboek (2008) by Paul Verhoeven.
