Daan Schuurmans

Daan is one of the most acclaimed Dutch actors. He played a lead role in Costa Grava’s Adults in the room (2019), which was the opening film of Venice Film Festival in 2019. In 2003, he was chosen as Shooting Star at the Berlin International Film Festival. Esquire magazine named Daan the best actor of his generation.

He played lead roles in the TV-series Vliegende Hollanders (2020), the Dutch remake of 'Sé Quien Eres’, Ik weet wie je bent (2018), four seasons of Nieuwe Buren (2014-2019) which Channel 4 is set to create its own remake for and the Dutch Academy Award winning series Mocro Maffia (2018-2019), delving into the dangerous world of rivaling drug gangs in the streets of Amsterdam. Most recently, Daan starred in the immensely popular TV-series Het Verhaal van Nederland (2022), which graced the hearts and minds of over 2 million viewers each episode.

Earlier in his career, he starred in the celebrated TV mini-series Bernhard, Schavuit van Oranje (2010) earning him a Best Actor nomination at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, and Annie M.G. (2010) about renowned children’s book writer Annie M.G. Schmidt. For both roles he won the Netherlands Beeld and Geluid award. His remarkable performances led to more well-deserved recognition, securing nominations for the Rembrandt award for Best Actor in three films: Terug naar de kust (2009), Mannenharten (2013) and Het Diner (2013), and he clinched the prestigious Gouden Notenkraker for Best Actor for his role in Heer en Meester (2014).

Daan is well-acquainted with the world of theater, having showcased his talent in various productions. He has graced the stage in roles such as Demonen with Oostpool Theater, King Lear with Het Toneel Speelt, and Closer with the esteemed Het Nationale Toneel. During the earlier stages of his career, he also took part in a production of Hamlet, under the direction of Theu Boermans.

Beyond his captivating acting career, Daan is a vivid creator, venturing into the realm of directing with his debut episode for Van God Los (2012). In addition, he founded Wolfi Pictures together with his wife Bracha van Doesburgh a powerhouse production company dedicated to crafting compelling and authentic drama for both film and television. Their first feature film Piece of my Heart (2022) came out to raving reviews.
