Martijn Lakemeier

Martijn Lakemeier first came to the scene at age 14, when he made his acting debut in the unforgettable box office hit Oorlogswinter (2008) which was selected as the Dutch entry for the Academy Awards. His portrayal of a young boy during World War II was so captivating that he went on to win the prestigious Dutch Academy Award (Golden Calf) for Best Actor, making him the youngest winner to date. Martijn was also awarded the Rembrandt Award for Best Actor, an important Dutch audience award and the film itself was awarded Best Film at the European Youth Festival in Rome.

Martijn’s career skyrocketed as he played leading roles in acclaimed movies, such as Lover or Loser (2009) adapted from Dutch children’s writer Carry Slee’s book, the award-winning De Marathon (2012), the arthouse film Boven is het Stil (2013), Ventoux (2015) and Ja Ik Wil! (2015). He continued his successful trajectory, starring alongside Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin) in Amazon's feature De Oost (2020), helmed by Jim Taihuttu, followed by Good Bad Girl (2022), Goodbye Stranger (2023) which premiered at the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Netflix Original feature Happy Ending (2023) by Joosje Duk alongside Gaite Jansen. The latter achieved a remarkable top 10 position on Netflix in numerous countries worldwide. 

Martijn has also conquered the small screen, having starred in the critically acclaimed Dutch drama series De Geheimen van Barslet (2011), Feuten (2012), three seasons of Hollands Hoop (2014-2020) and the Penoza spin-off Doodstil (2020).

He is currently starring as a series regular on the highly anticipated BBC hit-show Marie Antoinette (2022-) and in the Videoland series Maxima (2024), where he portrays King Willem-Alexander and which was selected for Canneseries 2024. Upcoming is the international Videoland series Safe Harbor where Martijn plays opposite Alfie Allen, Charlie Murphy and Jack Gleeson.
