Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen is a versatile Dutch actor whose career began at a young age. His breakthrough came in 1999, when he debuted as a child actor in the popular series De Daltons. He quickly became a well-known name thanks to his roles in films such as Afblijven (2006), Bloedbroeders (2008) and Schemer (2010). For his impressive performances in Bloedbroeders (2008), De Ontsnapping (2015), and the blockbuster Boy 7 (2015), directed by Lourens Blok, he received several nominations for the Dutch Academy Awards (Golden Calf).

Matthijs' versatility and commitment as an actor continued to shine in both film and theater. After graduating from the Toneelschool Maastricht, he joined Toneelgroep Oostpool and also performed with companies such as Orkater and De Toneelschuur. In 2015, he co-founded the theater collective Lars Doberman with three other actors, producing successful plays such as Een Bebop Verhaal (2013) and De Familie Mansøn (2015), both of which were selected for the Nederlands Theater Festival. Furthermore, he delivered several monologues, including Schumann & Zoon (2022), accompanied by a 16-member choir.
He continued to develop his craft with leading roles in productions such as Kamp Holland (2016), Brussel (2016), and Off-Track (2017). Matthijs has also been active internationally, working on the Taiwan Trilogy (2021), a project he contributed to from Taiwan. He appeared in the series Der Amsterdam Krimi (2020) and played a significant role in the international western series Billy the Kid (2022), where he appeared in the second season opposite Tom Blyth. In late 2024, the film Bonhoeffer, directed by Todd Komarnicki, is set to be released.
More recently, Matthijs starred in the series De Stamhouder (2023) by Diederik van Rooijen and the film All Inclusive (2023). At the beginning of 2025, the action thriller Full Moon will be released in theaters, in which Matthijs plays a leading role. The film was entirely shot in Thailand.
