Jip van den Toorn

Jip van den Toorn is a renowned Dutch cartoonist known for her work featured weekly in the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant and the Belgian newspaper De Morgen. Her book Crisis was published by Podium in 2022, followed in 2025 by Hoe vond je zelf dat het ging?, a year overview in cartoons. Additionally, she contributes to various magazines and newspapers in the Netherlands and Belgium, including De VPRO-gids and Het Parool. The documentary Jip van den Toorn – Boekhouder (2026) was produced as part of the NTR program Het Uur van de Wolf, following her artistic process as she uses cartoons to make sense of the chaos of the contemporary zeitgeist and explore personal existential questions, showing how she captures complex reality in a single image.

From 2019 to 2024, Jip worked as a writer and editor for the satirical TV show Dit was het Nieuws. Her talent has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the World Illustration Awards (2018) for Inappropriate Pillows, the Fiep Westendorp Stimulation Prize (2019) and the Inktspotprize (2022) for the best political cartoon of the year; making her the first female and youngest recipient of the award. 

In 2024, she participated as a contestant in the popular Dutch tv-show Wie is de Mol. Jip is also a regular sidekick on the talk show Sophie & Jeroen.
